PLEASE READ BELOW FOR CX PRACTICE INFORMATION:

The City is on board to have the practice course back at Smith Fields again this year and we’ll be able to have organized 11am-1pm (12noon is when the hot laps start) CX practices on Wednesdays, starting Wednesday 10/3! We will be having practice there for 6 weeks until Nov 14th when we can start using the FLC stadium and practice field areas on campus. The issue is that we can’t have any other organized practices over there because of the others sports using the fields and parking lot but they are aware that there may be some random individuals riding the course at different times. If you are one of those random individuals using the course at other times please be aware that there is a lot of action going on in the afternoon, evenings and weekends so you may have to scrap a planned ride there. We will not be able to use Folsom Park as it is organic and can’t handle the wear and tear.

The caveats on using Smith Fields is that we have to promise to NEVER ride across or on the playing fields and to not have courses go into soft drainage areas. We have to stick to the course we have laid out each week and they may need to be adjusted if spots start to look worn or too wet. Along the west side of the complex is a great sidehill for us to use but we can’t drop all the way to the bottom because it is the main drainage on that side and is very soft.

We will go in and out of gates in the perimeter fence and use some of the long hills on the outside for terrain, crossing but not using the Rim Trail, keep your heads up. May also have to deal with college kids walking from Hillcrest to campus as it is the preferred route. For the Wed Noon practices we’ll also close off a portion of the parking lot so we can have safe start/finish areas The bottom line is that we have to be good stewards of the park and limit conflict with other users. I’ll get a map going.

It would be really cool if next time you see Cathy Metz or Scott McLain, to thank them for the place to practice CX or even send them an email. We should be thankful… and our scene should be a part of any planning that goes on with bike parks, etc that are on the horizon.

Durango Fall Blaze 2018

Durango Fall Blaze

It’s back! Last held in 2015, FLC’s popular annual Fall Blaze Bicycle Tour is back on the road!

This year’s tour kicks off on Saturday, September 29, with a cannon blast and a police escort. All three ride options are followed by a party on campus.

The Fall Blaze is not a race -- it's a chance for FLC community members, supporters, friends, alumni, students, staff, and anyone else who just loves to ride to enjoy a fun and safe scenic group tour through the autumn colors of southwestern Colorado – all while supporting the student athletes on the nationally ranked Skyhawks cycling team.

The Fall Blaze is open to cyclists of all skill levels and abilities, offering tour options of 37, 60, and 100 miles. All three fully-supported rides set off from campus and include food and aid stations, support vehicles, and a party at the finish line back in the center of campus.

All proceeds benefit the Fort Lewis College Cycling Scholarship, awarded to men’s and women’s cycling team members with at least a 2.50 GPA and who are also active in the community. Awards range from $500 to $1,000.

Come join us on a cycling adventure to remember while becoming a part of the FLC cycling family!

San Juan Mountain Bike & Brew Festival

From September 26th to 30th Purgatory Ski Area, Durango CO will host three days of mountain bike riding via chairlift and shuttled high country rides (permit pending), live music and numerous craft beer and spirits. This event will also include a demo program. We have invited many industry leaders in the world of mountain bike to have products at this event, so come on out and throw your leg over a bike or two and try a few accessories in the industry. This event is placed to maximize the viewing please of the fall color change in the Southwest corner of the state and to showcase all the trails that Purgatory Ski area has been building for the past couple of years.

Registration packages will include several different options. Participants will be able to purchase different event packages to maximize all three days or just a day pass for each day. We will also be offering camping passes for tent camping, car camping, and R.V. camping. Purgatory also has a wide variety of lodging options for hotels and condos.

This event does not have a maximum number associated with it, however, the backcountry shuttling sucks.

Chocolate Bunny Productions is starting to book craft brewers and distillers and bands! We are planning on running music non-stop on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We will announce the bands as we book them but look for a wide variety of musicians as we are interested in diversity.

zia town series 2018

No longer will endurance races be held exclusively in the spring, and enduro in the fall. Instead, we will mix it up each week. Additionally, new this season, we will have two different omniums. The first will be a one-day points based omnium for combined results at the Purg race. The second omnium will cover the Fall season and points will be ranked on a racer's best 3 out of 4 races.

A week before each event you will receive an email with registration times, locations and race info as well as the list of volunteer needs for the race. You are not required to volunteer but it always helps! Please note that all town races will have a $10 entry fee. Categories: Racers can choose between A and B categories. Start times will be based on what time you arrive at the start, NOT based on category- We are recommending A racers arrive at the start early so they can start early.

Omnium points based on the best 3 results out of the 4 fall races.

And a friendly reminder, this series costs DEVO money to run, so please help support a program that is unique to our community!

Finally, a big thanks to all the sponsors of DEVO and this series: Zia Taqueria, Durango Urgent Care, Mercy Sports Medicine, and Fort Lewis College.

View the Technical Guide (coming soon) for a detailed list of the Downhill, XC, and STXC schedule.

Location

Just 25 miles north of Durango, Purgatory Resort is a scenic drive from most major cities in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico.

Individual rider rankings will be offered for the Pro category. The gated events, such as dual slalom and four-cross (4X), may also be offered at some of the seven stops on the 2018 Pro GRT. Series points are given to top finishers at each event and used to determine the individual men’s and women’s standings that rank the best downhillers competing in the U.S.
