2019 Course Description

This course is on PRIVATE PROPERTY.

The State Championship Race will take place on the Durango Mesa and will start near the Toyota Pit Zone. The half-mile start leads riders to a left turn onto the first section of singletrack. Riders will climb to the high-point of the course where the course turns onto the South Rim Trail which descends along the ridgeline. This fast section is then followed by 7 switchbacks offering riders a chance to test their technical skills before joining with the Carbon Junction Trail. Once on the Carbon Junction Trail, riders will return to the venue via a mix of singletrack and double track following the perimeter of the Durango Mesa.

Upon returning to the venue, riders will have completed the southern loop. Passing over a wooden flyover built by the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic crew, riders will begin the northern loop. The trails on the northern loop include fast and flowy singletrack mixed with sections of open double track to allow riders ample passing opportunities. As riders return to the venue, they descend a few berms which connect with the finish chute. It’s here that riders will climb slightly through the finish line and proceed onto their next lap.

Each October, mountain bikers meet in Farmington, New Mexico to compete in the annual Road Apple Rally!  The Road Apple Rally is a favorite for professional and new riders and is celebrating 37 years of racing. Pro and expert divisions will compete for $4,000 in cash prizes.

The Road Apple Rally began in 1981 as a competition between horses and bicycles.  It has since become a bicycle only race and stands as the longest running annual mountain bike race in the United States.  Bring the family for a day of fun and try the children's riding obstacle course.

This celebrated mountain bike race features five divisions:

  • Beginner

  • Pro

  • Expert

  • Sport

  • Single Speed

The Beginner course is a 15-mile loop, all others ride the full 30 mile Road Apple Rally course.  Both courses feature the whoops, where you spend more time in the air than on the ground!  Course terrain also includes short climbs, flats, sandy arroyos and sharp corners.

Registration

Entry fee is $45 and late registration is $60.  Call 505-599-1197 for dates. There is also a $10 fee for the race t-shirt and $10 fee for lunch if selected.  Register early to save, and please remember there is no registration on race day.

Packet Pickup

Packet pick-up will be at Lions Wilderness Park Amphitheater on Friday, October 5, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday morning, October 6, 2018, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Learn more about the Road Apple Rally by viewing our videos below and visiting the City of Farmington, PRCA  official website.

zia town series 2018

No longer will endurance races be held exclusively in the spring, and enduro in the fall. Instead, we will mix it up each week. Additionally, new this season, we will have two different omniums. The first will be a one-day points based omnium for combined results at the Purg race. The second omnium will cover the Fall season and points will be ranked on a racer's best 3 out of 4 races.

A week before each event you will receive an email with registration times, locations and race info as well as the list of volunteer needs for the race. You are not required to volunteer but it always helps! Please note that all town races will have a $10 entry fee. And a friendly reminder, this series costs DEVO money to run, so please help support a program that is unique to our community!

Finally, a big thanks to all the sponsors of DEVO and this series: Zia Taqueria, Durango Urgent Care, Mercy Sports Medicine, and Fort Lewis College.
